Mitchell has a strong passion for performing live in a wide variety of musical contexts. His experiences as a freelance percussionist include playing with professional orchestras, percussion ensembles, solo percussion, drum set in a variety of contexts, experimental electroacoustic looping, contemporary music ensembles, Brazilian samba baterias, Afro-Cuban folkloric ensembles, and steel pan ensembles.
